This was a fantastic find. An unusual location and unassuming, but let me tell you it is def worth the visit. The customer service was fantastic. Attentive and friendly. The food was some of the best we have had. The pasta was cooked perfectly and flavours where balanced. The pizza was great, the base was perfect and ingredients fresh. I highly recommend a visit and we will be sure to return. It has new owners who have been there for 6 months and you can tell they care about what they are doing.
Pasta and ristretto tastes great, and the calamari in the appetizer also tastes good. Except for the pizza's taste and ingredients being quite ordinary, there is no particular surprise. The only thing we are not satisfied with is that the portions are all small and the prices are not cheap. If the portions were a bit more, I think it would be perfect.
Sassy Italian 20/09/2025 This is an interesting place in West Melbourne and one that isnโt overly popular on Saturday nights it seems. It is supposedly an โItalian restaurantโ however I didnโt see a single Italian and the head chef is โTrentโ โ so not very Italian! Atmosphere โ quite poor really. The windows overlook the North Melbourne train station which is undergoing redevelopment so all we looked at was machinery. Inside the tables are quite spread out and it feels somewhat empty (which is good for noise) so thereโs no nice ambiance or vibe. There was a lack of heating (I asked twice for more heat) so the whole place was cold. There are three ambulant toilets located along a corridor that feels more like youโre in a hospital and I went to open one only to find a man sitting on the toilet, so that wasnโt a nice surprise. I finally found a toilet and the floor was filthy so quite unpleasant. There was a band on the night we were there which played good, modern music. Service โ generally attentive, however requests to turn up heating were clearly ignored. Food service came out relatively quickly. The waitress we had for a table of 6 mucked up our order a little but we coped. Food โ this place is trying to be high-end with its prices but really, itโs the equivalent of going to La Porchetta. The prices are extortionate for what you get and the quality is questionable. We had the focaccia which was dry and hard, the entrรฉe calamari was tasty but small portions, the arancini and croquettes were ok, but I think they came out of the freezer at Woolworths and werenโt homemade. For mains we ordered the specials of Barramundi ($48) and Lamb Rigatoni ($43). Both were fine but such small sizes that they were equivalent of entrees. The main calamari salad had a lot more cabbage than calamari. There is a lack of mains to choose from unless you want pizza or pasta which not everyone wants these days when wanting to reduce carbohydrates. The lava cake and panna cotta desserts, like the entrees, were clearly store bought from the Woolworths freezer and the pistachio ice-cream with the lava cake was made from some green food colouring as it was not genuine pistachio. The tiramisu dessert was the only dessert that looked ok. We ordered a few beers and a bottle of white wine too. All up we spent $702 for 6 people which was an absolute rip off and believe we would have been better off at La Porchetta. The 15% surcharge for a Saturday was not needed. There is no atmosphere, despite the decent band and the food was below average for the prices paid. Wonโt be returning or recommending to others sorry.
I visited Sassy for lunch with my colleagues over two days while we were attending a training program in North Melbourne. It quickly became our go-to spot, as it seemed to be the best option for a good meal in the area. The service stood out right away โ the young lady who looked after us was genuinely warm, welcoming, and attentive. She not only made us feel comfortable but also gave us some really helpful recommendations, which added to the overall experience. The food itself was quite good in terms of taste and presentation. The only thing I felt could be improved was the portion size, as it seemed a little small for the price. That said, the ambience of the place was very pleasant, which made the meal more enjoyable. Overall, it was a lovely experience, and the excellent service definitely made a strong impression on us.
Absolutely mind-blowing! This is one of the best Italian restaurants we've visited in Melbourne. The service was exemplary, and the staff were incredibly professional. We started with the calamari, which was decent, but the homemade chicken pasta and lamb ravioli were out of this world. They were extremely fresh, handmade, and tasted phenomenal, truly representing the Italian cuisine we were seeking. We loved the food so much that we also ordered the brisket pizza, which was just as amazing, tasty, and delicious as the pastas. We were extremely happy with our experience and will definitely come back again.
